Museum of Bavarian History

Regensburg, Germany

The Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte: Museum in the historic centre of Regensburg on the southern bank of the Danube is a museum dedicated to new and recent Bavarian history. The museum was opened on 5 June 2019.

The museum's permanent exhibition covers the period from the founding of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806 to the present day over an area of 2500 square metres. The museum is the first location-based institution of the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte, which organises the Bavarian State Exhibitions, which take place in a different region of Bavaria each year on a specific topic of Bavarian history.

A steel and glass construction measuring around 700 square metres spans the foyer and alleyway at a height of 17 metres as a new link between the old town and the Danube. The large showroom with 360-degree panorama, the large divisible Danube Hall for special exhibitions and events, museum shop and pub are further points of contact on the ground floor, from where an escalator leads visitors to the large permanent exhibition area directly under the folded roof.

The most important figures:

  • 2,500m² area of the permanent exhibition
  • Approx. 400,000 visitors per year (as of 2019)
  • Opening date: June 2019
